A Legacy of Historical Excellence

In Vishnu Shastri Khande's words, V.K. Rajwade was one of the foundational pillars of Marathi historical research. Born on June 19, 1863, in Pune, Rajwade dedicated his life to the study of history, earning the title of 'Itihasacharya' (Master Historian). His lifelong commitment to uncovering the lesser-known chapters of Marathi history has left an indelible mark on the field.

Through the establishment of the 'Bharat Itihas Sanshodhak Mandal,' Rajwade worked tirelessly to reveal untold stories of the past. His editorial work on the 22 volumes of 'Marathi Itihasache Sadhane' (Sources of Marathi History) provided detailed accounts of significant historical events and documents. Additionally, he has written extensively on subjects like 'The Contribution to India's Freedom Movement' and 'The Rise of the Maratha Empire,' offering profound insights into these pivotal periods of history.

As a lasting tribute to his immense contribution, a bust of V.K. Rajwade adorns the entrance of the Bharat Itihas Sanshodhak Mandal. This bust stands as a symbol of respect and recognition for his role as the founder and visionary behind the institution, serving as a reminder of his invaluable legacy to all who enter.

In March 1926, due to some disagreements, Rajwade left Pune and established a new institution in Dhule under the name 'Rajwade Sanshodhan Mandir.' However, the Pune-based Mandal continued its mission to assist research and promote historical studies. It received substantial support from the general public and scholars in the form of donations of books and documents. Rajwade’s disciples, Dattopant Waman Potdar, Ganesh Hari Khare, and Vasudev Sitaram Bendre, are recognized for playing significant roles in the Mandal's activitie.

Nurturing Historical Awareness and Education

The purpose of our institution is deeply rooted in promoting and preserving history. With the recent upgrades backed by the Maaydesh Foundation, we aim to provide a space for storing and displaying historical artifacts and a vibrant environment where history can be discussed, debated, and celebrated. Our library, museum, and research facilities serve as hubs for knowledge, designed to meet the needs of historians, researchers, and students alike.

Our primary goal is to create a center where the past is not only preserved but brought to life through dynamic interactions. Through lectures, workshops, and seminars, you can engage with a broader audience and share historical knowledge in innovative ways. This ensures that history is appreciated not just as a subject of study but as a living, breathing narrative that continues to shape our world today.

By offering modern facilities and engaging programs, we hope to ignite a passion for history in students and young researchers. We are looking for young researchers to regularly visit Rajwade Hall’s various facilities to write papers, articles, books and scripts. We aim to make this institution a premier place globally for Maratha history.

Promoting Accessibility to Historical Knowledge

One of our key goals is to make Maratha history more accessible to the public. Whether through exhibitions at the Maaydesh Foundation Art Gallery or public lectures at the Rajwade Auditorium, we believe in the importance of sharing the richness, and importance of Maratha history with everyone.
